Chico State’s Damian Garcia has been picked as the FloCollege/CCAA Track Athlete of the Week, for the week of March 31-April 6.
Garcia earned two provisional marks in the San Francisco Bay Area at two meets last weekend with a pair of personal best times in middle distance races.
At the Stanford Invitational on Friday, Garcia posted a PR of 3:43.54 in the 1,500-meter run, earning him the third fastest time in Division II this season. He trails national leader Luca Poppe of Wingate by less than two seconds. The day before, on Thursday, at the Mike Fanelli Classic at SF State, the sophomore from Turlock placed third in the 800-meter run in 1:50.40, also his best time.
Garcia currently leads the CCAA performance list in both 1,500-meter and 800-meter runs.
This is Garcia’s first career athlete of the week award in track and field. He’s captured the cross country runner of the week award once last Fall. Click here to see the complete list of CCAA Track & Field weekly award winners.
