Sonoma State’s Lauren Mirtoni has been named the FloCollege/CCAA Softball Player of the Week, for the week of April 7-13.
Mirtoni batted .538, going 7 for 13, with a slugging percentage of .692. She had two doubles, drove in five runs and scored twice to lead the Seawolves offense in their 3-games-to-1 series win over Cal State Dominguez Hills. Mirtoni is one of the key players helping the SSU surge as the Seawolves have won 10 of the last 11 games including seven conference victories to leap up in the standings.
The biggest moment for the senior third baseman from Roseville was in the series finale on Saturday. In the home half of the eighth inning, Mirtoni’s hit down the left field line scored Sophia Newcomb for SSU’s walk-off win to capture the series. Mirtoni went 3-for-4 in the second game on Friday including a RBI double in the first inning to jump start the offense. She has now hit safely in 12 of the last 13 games.
Mirtoni is seventh in the CCAA with a .445 on-base percentage. She’s among the league leaders with 18 walks (tied for fourth) with seven sacrifice bunts (tied for fourth). Click here to see the CCAA stats leaderboard.
