SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The No. 2 seed Cal Poly Pomona will advance to the 2025 CCAA women's basketball tournament championship game after earning a 73-61 win over the No. 3 seed, Chico State.
The Broncos had only 38 points through the first 27 minutes of the game before exploding for 35 points in the final 13 minutes to punch their ticket to the CCAA Tournament final for the first time since 2019.
CPP trailed 43-38 with three minutes left in the third quarter before
Mydrea Moore hit a layup to start the Broncos' run. CPP would score the next eight points as
Cookie Marques capped off the quarter and a 10-0 run with a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give Cal Poly Pomona its first lead at 47-43.
That run put all the momentum on the Broncos' side, and they continued to add to their lead as the final quarter began. CPP would extend its advantage to as many as 12 late in the quarter as the Broncos would outscore the Wildcats 47-31 in the second half while shooting .586 percent.
Sydney Nelson scored a game-high 29 points on 12-of-21 shooting to lead the Broncos.
Mydrea Moore just missed a double-double as she scored nine points and pulled down a team-leading 10 rebounds.
Cookie Marques also reached double-figures, scoring 13 off the bench on 4-of-7 shooting (2-of-4 on 3-pointers).
Meadow Aragon posted 16 points and 10 rebounds to register a double-double of her own.
Jordan Allred led the Wildcats with 18 points.
Cal Poly Pomona will take on the winner of No. 1 seed Cal State Dominguez Hills and No. 5 seed Sonoma State in the championship game on Saturday, March 8, starting at 8 p.m. CPP is seeking its first CCAA Tournament Championship since 2011.
