SAN MARCOS, Calif. - Jordan Allred, Meadow Aragon and
Makenzi Laporte combined for 64 points as the No. 3 seeded Chico State women's basketball team survived against No. 6 seed Cal State LA, 84-74, in the CCAA Tournament quarterfinals.
The Wildcats held the lead for almost the entire game, except when Cal State LA stormed back from a 41-33 halftime deficit and grabbed their first lead early in the fourth quarter on
Sofia Fidelus's fifth 3-pointer (59-58).
Meadow Aragon answered with an and-1 basket on the next possession and fueled a 9-0 run, which
Jadence Clifton capped with a 3-pointer to extend the lead back to eight. The Golden Eagles would not go away and they made it a one-possession game (66-63) with 4:13 remaining before Chico again responded with a 12-3 run over the next three minutes.
Allred finished with her sixth double-double as she led all student-athletes with 23 points, 10 rebounds and five assists. Laporte had 22 points, eight rebounds, and four assists. The Wildcats would record an assist on 19 of its 26 baskets.
Aragon just missed giving Chico State three student-athletes with 20 points as she put up 19 points on 6-of-10 shooting.
Ciarah Michalik also reached double-figures with 13 points.
Fidelus led Cal State LA with 19 points. She hit five of the teams eight shots from behind the arc. Four-time All-CCAA first-teamer
Lily Buggs completed her historic career with 18 points and seven rebounds.
Naevaeh Asiasi (16) and
Olivia Hodges (12) also reached double-figures for the Golden Eagles.
Chico State will advance to the CCAA Women's Basketball Tournament semifinals, where it will play the No. 2 seed, Cal Poly Pomona, on Friday, Mar. 7 at 5:30 p.m.
