The California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) has announced its All-CCAA men's basketball teams and individual award winners for the 2024-25 season. A total of 20 student-athletes received a first or second team selection, and 16 earned an honorable mention.
Chico State's
Jojo Murphy was voted the CCAA Player of the Year, as voted on by the conference coaches. Cal State Dominguez Hills'
Jordan Hilstock received CCAA Defensive Player of the Year honors, and the Toros'
Steve Becker received CCAA Coach of the Year honors for the second consecutive season. Newcomer of the Year honors went to Sonoma State's
Chris Holley, and Cal Poly Humboldt's
Aidan Fowler was named the Freshman of the Year.
Jojo Murphy led the CCAA in scoring with 20.4 points per game and was fourth in field goal percentage (.480). He scored double figures in all 26 games, including topping the 20-point mark 16 times. The 6-2 guard from Oakland scored a season-high 31 points against Cal State LA. He hit five 3-pointers in that game and finished the season with at least two made 3-pointers in 20 of 26 contests. He completed his junior campaign as the conference leader in 3-point shooting percentage (.404) and 3-pointers made per game (2.65). He is the fourth Wildcat to earn CCAA Player of the Year honors. He joins Malik Duffy (2021-22), Robert Duncan (2015-16), and Jay Flores (2011-12).
Jordan Hilstock becomes the first Toro in program history to earn CCAA Defensive Player of the Year honors. The 6-3 guard from Oceanside ranks fourth in the CCAA with 1.88 steals per game. He posted at least one steal in 20 of 22 conference games while helping guard the opponent's best perimeter players. His defense helped CSUDH rank second in the CCAA in opponent field goal percentage (.418) and scoring margin (7.9).
Sonoma State's
Chris Holley was named the CCAA Newcomer of the Year after averaging 11.9 ppg and leading the conference in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.24). He was third in assists per game (4.3). The transfer from Santa Rosa JC shot .555 percent from the field and .429 percent from 3-point range. Holley is only the second Seawolves' student-athlete to earn this honor. He joins Justin Herold, who won the award during the 2011-12 season.
CCAA Freshman of the Year honors went to Cal Poly Humboldt's
Aidan Fowler. The guard from San Clemente led all freshmen with 11.1 ppg and 1.7 assists per game. He shot .417 percent from the field and .370 percent from 3-point range in his first season wearing the Green & Gold. He earned FloCollege/CCAA Player of the Week honors (Nov. 26) after scoring 24 points in a win over Western Oregon. He would post a new career high during conference play with 27 points on 10-of-15 shooting against Cal State Monterey Bay.
Steve Becker led Cal State Dominguez Hills to the Toros' first outright CCAA regular season championship in program history. CSUDH's success was also recognized on the national level as it went 23-5 (20-2 CCAA) and was in the top 25 for most of the season. A 12-game winning streak helped the Toros jump out to an early lead in the conference standings, and they went wire-to-wire for their second consecutive CCAA title. Becker is one of only four coaches in the last 20 years to earn CCAA Coach of the Year honors in back-to-back seasons.
There was a lot of turnover on the All-CCAA first and second teams from last year. Only Cal State Dominguez Hills'
Jeremy Dent-Smith, the 2023-24 CCAA Player of the Year, repeated as a first-team selection.
Corey Cofield II (Cal State LA),
Andrew Henderson (Cal State San Bernardino),
Evan Oliver (Cal State San Bernardino), and
Adam Afifi (Cal State Dominguez Hills) all moved up to the first team after earning second-team honors last year. Murphy collected first team honors for the second time in his career.
Joining them on the All-CCAA first team are Stanislaus State's
Jeremiah Jones, Chico State's
Isaiah Kerr, Sonoma State's
Chris Holley, and Cal Poly Humboldt's
Rob Diaz III. Cal State LA's
Dominic Escobar and
Shane Bell earned all-conference recognition for the third time in their careers.
