Alessio Sommacal of Cal Poly Pomona named FloCollege/CCAA Track Athlete of the Week

Alessio Sommacal of Cal Poly Pomona has been selected as the FloCollege/CCAA Track Athlete of the Week, for the week of March 17-23.

Sommacal won the 400-meter hurdles event at UCLA’s Jim Bush Legends Meet on Saturday, clocking in at 51.83, which is currently the fastest time recorded in Division II this season. The time beats the NCAA provisional qualifying time of 53.15 and surpasses former leader, and CCAA foe, Trent Lauderdale of Stanislaus State at the top of both the CCAA and National performance lists.

The senior from Belluno, Veneto, Italy, also was part of the Broncos’ 4x400-meter relay team, which took third at the meet with a CCAA-best time of 3:12.28, which is also a national championship provisional qualifying time and No. 3 in DII. He was third in the 100-meter hurdles in 14.48 on Saturday.
