CARSON, Calif. - The Cal State Dominguez Hills women's basketball team dominated the 2025 NCAA West Regional from start to finish, punching its ticket to the Elite Eight with a 70-47 win over No. 6 seed Central Washington (Mar. 17).
All-tournament selections
Nala Williams and
Asia Jordan led the way for CSUDH, which sealed its second regional title in three years. Williams put together her best all-around game of the tournament with 19 points, six rebounds, six assists, and six steals. She is now the CCAA's all-time leader for steals in a season with 144. Williams' mark shattered Vickie Mitchell's (Cal Poly Pomona) previous conference record, which had stood since 1985-86.
Jordan was named the Most Outstanding Player of the NCAA West Regional after averaging 17.3 points per game and 6.3 rebounds while shooting .600 percent from the field. She capped off the regional by scoring 17 points on 8-of-11 shooting. Jordan has now been named the Most Outstanding Player in both the CCAA Tournament and the NCAA West Regional.
Freshman
Cristina Jones secured a spot on the all-tournament team after scoring nine points and collecting a game-high 11 rebounds in the championship. She averaged a double-double in the tournament with 16.7 points per game and 10.3 rebounds per game (.613 shooting%).
Cal State Dominguez Hills was due for a game like tonight. The Toros entered the game at 33-1 but had not yet put together a full game on offense and defense in the playoffs. Tonight, they had everything going from the opening tipoff and proved why they reached No. 2 in the national rankings and will be a threat next week at the Elite Eight.
The Toros opened the game on an 11-0 run behind seven quick points from Williams. They would extend that lead to 20-8 at the end of the first quarter and go up as many as 27 after a 3-pointer by Joe'l Benoit late in the second quarter. CSUDH would score the first four points after halftime to expand its lead to 30 points, and Central Washington would not get within 20 points the rest of the game.
Sunny Huerta led CWU with 20 points. She made 11-of-12 free throws while adding seven rebounds and five assists.
Cal State Dominguez Hills will advance to the 2025 NCAA Division II Women’s Elite Eight, which will be held at the UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse in Pittsburgh on March 24, 26, and 28.
