Shelby Shanks of Cal Poly Humboldt was voted as the FloCollege/CCAA Softball Player of the Week, for the week of March 3-9.
Shanks was a tough out at the plate last week as she led the Lumberjacks to a 5-1 week, including a 3-1 series win over Cal State Monterey Bay. She batted .588 with a 1.294 slugging percentage and was on base 68.2 percent of the time for an OPS of 1.976. Shanks went 10-for-17, drove in 11 runs and scored eight times. She had three doubles and smashed three home runs with five walks.
The junior shortstop from Stockton, Calif., went 5-for-8 with seven RBI in Cal Poly Humboldt’s twinbill sweep over Montana State-Billings on March 5. She had two doubles and a two-run homer. In the series against CSUMB, Shanks went 5-for-9 with a double and two dingers to drive in four runs. She scored six times to lead Humboldt to the series win. Her home run tied the game in the seventh inning of the series opener that led to a Lumberjack walk-off win later in the inning. Shanks’ round-tripper in the series finale on Saturday extended her team’s lead to 9-4 before Humboldt held off Otter rallies to hang on for an 11-8 win.
Shanks currently ranks fourth in the CCAA in batting average (.419), fifth in slugging (.649) and fifth in on base percentage (.483). She is also top four in runs (22), hits (31) and RBI (19). Click here to see the CCAA stats leaderboard.
