Chico State’s Amelie Valdez dominated in the circle at the Concordia Kickoff Classic to earn the season’s first FloCollege/CCAA Pitcher of the Week award.
Valdez posted three victories in three starts and led the Wildcats to a perfect 5-0 start in the season opening event in Irvine. In all, the junior from Atwater threw 20 innings and gave up just one unearned run with two complete game shutouts. Valdez recorded 21 strikeouts against just two walks and yielded just five singles.
In Friday’s opener against Central Washington, she tossed a one-hitter with eight strikeouts in the team’s 3-0 win. On Saturday against Biola, Valdez gave up two hits and an unearned run in a 9-1 Wildcats victory. Lastly, on Sunday, Valdez pitched another shutout, this time a two-hitter with nine strikeouts in a 4-0 win for Chico.
So far after one weekend of play, Valdez leads the CCAA with a .078 opponents batting average and tops the league in innings, strikeouts and wins.

This is Valdez’s third career Pitcher of the Week award. She snagged two of the weekly awards as a freshman in 2023.

Chico State, which outscored opponents 22-4 in Irvine, will take its 5-0 record to Turlock, Feb. 14-16, for the Tournament of Champions hosted by Stanislaus State.
