Sonoma State’s Charlie Johnson threw a no-hitter and handed a team its first loss of the season to win this week’s FloCollege/CCAA Pitcher of the Week award.
Johnson, who was also the pitcher of the week last week, posted a 1.00 ERA after 21 innings of work in four appearances. She allowed just three earned runs in three starts with a shutout while striking out seven batters. Opponents batted .187 against her.
The junior right-hander from Rancho Bernardo started the week with an impressive no-hitter against Dominican. Johnson fanned four in six innings of work in the team’s 8-0, mercy rule win. It was SSU’s first no-hitter since Jesse Dupuis in 2022. During the Seawolves’ series against #25 Cal State East Bay in Hayward, Johnson led SSU to a split on Saturday, handing the Pioneers’ their first defeat of the season. Against CSUEB (12-1), Johnson yielded an unearned run in the complete-game victory. She struck out two and gave up five hits in the 3-1 win.
Johnson, whose personal record is 6-5, continues to lead the CCAA in innings pitched (60) and shares the lead with six wins. Click here to see the CCAA player leaderboard.
This is Johnson’s third career Pitcher of the Week award. She earned this honor last week and as a freshman in 2023, she picked up this honor on March 20. Click here to see the complete list of CCAA Softball weekly award winners.
