Marissa Quintero of Cal State East Bay was nearly untouchable as she’s been selected as FloCollege/CCAA Pitcher of the Week, for the week of Feb. 3-9.
Quintero pitched nine scoreless innings, in two games, and yielded just four singles with 12 strikeouts to help the Pioneers to a 9-0 start (the best during the program’s CCAA era). She walked just one batter against Academy of Art on Friday and hit two batters versus Menlo College on Saturday.
The sophomore right-hander from Whittier was part of a combined no-hitter on Saturday. She started the game against the Oaks and fanned six batters in five frames. After allowing two baserunners in the first two innings, Quintero retired nine consecutive batters before stepping aside for Jaidyn Gamble to wrap-up the no-hitter. In the start against Art U, Quintero struck out six batters in the first three innings en route to the victory.
Quintero is currently in the top three in nearly every pitching category in the CCAA, including ERA (third with a 0.30 ERA), opponent batting average (second, .104) and strikeouts (second, 26).
