Chico State places 15th & Cal Poly Pomona 18th as CPP's Ricardo Vargas earns All-American honors

KENOSHA, Wisc. - Chico State finished 15th, and Cal Poly Pomona took 18th place at the 2025 NCAA Men's Cross Country Championships.
 
Cal Poly Pomona's Ricardo Vargas was the top finisher from the CCAA, placing 21st with a time of 30:23.6 on the 10k Wayne E. Dannehl National XC Course to earn All-American honors.
 
Mario Giannini led Chico State, finishing 57th with a time of 31:01.1. Jesus Villareal made a late push and finished 72nd with a time of 31:13.5. The other scoring runners for Chico State were Matthew Gordon (90th, 31:29.1), Damian Garcia (31:48.6), and Jackson Stream (164th, 32:21.2). The Wildcats finished with 431 points.
 
Cal Poly Pomona posted 500 points to earn its best finish since 2019. Vargas earned 17 points with his 21st-place finish. Francisco Zavaleta was the next finisher for CPP, coming in with a time of 31:45.7 to place 105th. Thomas McDonnell (31:54.0) and Juan Ramos (32:04.2) finished 116th and 134th, respectively. Jacob Shirota closed out the scoring, placing 199th (32:41.8).
 
Cal State San Marcos' Alan Jimenez earned an at-large invite to the championships and placed 69th with a time of 31:13.3.
 
Wingate won the 2025 NCAA Men's Cross Country Championship by nine points over Adams State (62-71). Kidus Begashaw from Adams State won the individual championship with a time of 29:38.8.
 
This concludes the 2025 NCAA Cross Country season.
