Sonoma State’s Constance O’Neal has been named the CCAA Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week, for the first week of the 2024 season.

O’Neal was the winner of the third annual Seawolve Invite, hosted by Sonoma State at Fresno’s Woodward Park on Saturday. The meet, which featured five CCAA programs, also served as a preview meet for the CCAA Championships.

Sonoma State also won the women’s team competition, tallying 23 points with five top 10 finishes. The Seawolves finished ahead of Stanislaus State, ranked No. 7 in the West Region in the preseason. The Warriors scored 40 points with five runners in the top 15.

O’Neal, competing in cross country for the first time, clocked in at 18:03.03 in the 5K run. She was more than 30 seconds ahead of teammate and runner-up Makenzie Kordic, a freshman from Palos Verdes, Calif. O’Neal transferred from San Jose State and was on the SSU’s track team last spring.

O’Neal is the first Seawolf not named Gianna Bomarito to earn this weekly award since 2016. Bomarito was a two-time recipient in each of the last two seasons.

Sonoma State will serve as the host of the 2024 CCAA Cross Country Championships, Oct. 25, at Woodward Park.
