2024 All-CCAA Softball Team]
The CCAA announced its softball all-conference team and special award winners on Tuesday, April 30. Cal State San Bernardino's
Tereise Tosi was voted the CCAA Player of the Year, and Cal State San Marcos'
Jayline Sloss was selected as the Pitcher of the Year.
For the second consecutive season, Sonoma State's
Jennifer Bridges won CCAA Coach of the Year honors. Cal State Dominguez Hills'
Mariah Ramirez won Newcomer of the Year honors, and Cal State East Bay's
Marissa Quintero won Freshman of the Year honors.
Tereise Tosi became the fourth Coyote in the program's history to collect CCAA Player of the Year honors. The junior third baseman ranked second in the conference with a .431 batting average and was third with a .517 on-base percentage. Tosi posted seven home runs with 30 runs batted in and 26 runs scored. She reached base safely in 45 of 47 games and carries a 14-game on-base streak into the CCAA Tournament. Tosi completed her regular season with 28 walks and only six strikeouts.
Cal State San Marcos'
Jayline Sloss received CCAA Pitcher of the Year honors after leading the conference with a 1.31 earned run average and a 1.05 WHIP. The junior right-hander went 15-8 and tied for the conference lead with four shutouts. Only twice in the entire season did she allow more than two runs in a game. In conference play, she had a league-leading 1.62 ERA. Sloss is the first Cougar ever to win CCAA Pitcher or Player of the Year honors.
Mariah Ramirez made an immediate impact in the batter's box and the pitcher's circle in her only season at Cal State Dominguez Hills. The graduate student from La Habra, Calif., led the CCAA and ranked 13th in NCAA Div. II had 17 home runs (six more than second place) and was second in RBI (43). As a pitcher, Ramirez led the CCAA in wins (20), ranked fifth in ERA (2.25), sixth in WHIP (1.20), and second in strikeouts (129). She is the first Toro to win a CCAA softball special honor since 2012.
Marissa Quintero became the first Cal State East Bay Pioneer ever to earn CCAA Freshman of the Year honors. The right-handed pitcher was a force all season in the circle for the Pioneers, ranking in the top 5 in the conference in ERA (second, 1.72), shutouts (t-first, 4), and WHIP (third, 1.11). She was the toughest pitcher in the conference to get a hit off of, as she allowed only 4.92 hits per seven innings. Quintero was even better in CCAA play, where she posted a 1.67 ERA, and opponents hit just .204.
Jennifer Bridges becomes only the second coach in the past 20 years to win CCAA Coach of the Year honors in back-to-back seasons. Bridges led the Seawolves to a 30-16 record and its second consecutive CCAA regular season title (23-11). After taking a couple of losses in non-conference games, Bridges had the Seawolves ready to play with the conference season rolled around. They won 15 of 18 games in a stretch to move into first place before winning seven of their last eight games to secure the program's second-ever title.
Bridges also guided three Seawolves to All-CCAA first-team honors and another two onto the second team.
Giana Hays and
Anna Zoia-Buescher earned All-CCAA honors for the third time in their careers.
Bailee Reed and
Jasmine Moreno were first-time recipients, and
Rylee Nishimoto collected second-team honors for the second straight year.
Sonoma State was one of three teams to place three student-athletes on the 16-person All-CCAA first team. Along with CCAA Player of the Year, Tereise Tosi, Cal State San Bernardino placed
Shannon Galliano and
Bri Goris on the first team. Cal State San Marcos had
Madison Waymire,
Paige Donnelly, and Sloss named to the top team. Tosi and Donnelly join Hays, Zoia-Buescher,
Savannah Coyle, and San Francisco State's
Kai DeLeon as three-time recipients of an All-CCAA honor.
Six different universities were represented on the All-CCAA first team, and all 10 teams placed someone on the first or second team.
The CCAA Softball Tournament will begin on Wednesday, May 1.
