CCAA student-athletes sweep the NFCA weekly awards!

Cal Poly Humboldt's Shelby Shanks was named the NFCA Player of the Week and Cal State San Marcos' Jordan Hill was named Pitcher of the Week

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Cal Poly Humboldt’s Shelby Shanks and Cal State San Marcos’ Jordan Hill collected Division II Louisville Slugger/NFCA Player and Wilson/NFCA Pitcher of the Week honors for contests played Feb. 23-March 1.

Shanks was red hot last weekend at the NorCal Crossover Tournament that featured 17 teams. Over a five-game stretch, she led all players with a .707 batting average (12-for-17), .737 on-base percentage and 1.176 slugging percentage. Shanks also topped the tournament charts with 12 hits, 7 RBI and 20 total bases. She notched three doubles, a triple and a home run. Additionally, the senior shortstop was flawless at her position in 17 chances.

Hill posted a 3-0 mark last week with a 0.00 ERA and 15 strikeouts in 19 innings of work. She walked just three batters, posted a 0.74 WHIP and held her opponents to a .175 batting average. The senior righty twirled a six-hit shutout against Western Oregon with five strikeouts. Hill also tossed six shutout innings in wins over Montana Billings and Vanguard for the No. 1-ranked Cougars.

The awards are voted on by the NFCA Division II Top 25 Poll Committee, which features two member coaches from each of the NCAA’s eight regions.
