Cal State LA’s Jonon Young is CCAA Women’s Field Athlete of the Week after two personal best jumps

Jonon Young earned Cal State LA’s first CCAA Women’s Field Athlete of the Week award this season after her performance over the weekend.

At the 96th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, Young leapt to the top of the Division II lists with two outdoor seasonal bests in the long jump and triple jump. The junior from Carson posted a new NCAA provisional mark in the triple jump with a 12.88-meter distance (42 feet, 3.25 inches), which is the second best in Division II. In the long jump, Young equaled her best with a 6.19-meter mark, also the second best distance in Division II.

Young, who is the 2004 Indoor national champion in the triple jump, now holds the fifth best mark in the long jump and second top mark in the triple jump in Cal State LA history. She currently leads the CCAA in both events. Click here to see the 2024 CCAA Performance List 

This is her first CCAA Women’s Field Athlete of the Week award of her career. Young is the third Golden Eagle to ever win this weekly award since inception in 2017. (J’Liyah Miles in 2017 and Javany McDermott in 2022). See a complete list of weekly winners. 

Cal State LA will travel north to take part in the Brutus Hamilton Invitational at Cal this week.
