Record-breaking throw earns CSUSM’s Kalathan Laiwa-McKay CCAA Field Athlete of the Week Feb 27, 2024 Share: Complete list of weekly winners >>> Kalathan Laiwa-McKay of Cal State San Marcos has been voted the CCAA Men’s Field Athlete of the Week for the week of Feb. 19-25. Laiwa-McKay broke the CSUSM shot put record with an NCAA Provisional Standard mark of 55-11 (17.04 meters). His mark was over three feet (0.93 meters) better than his previous best and surpassed Ndoto Strong's record of 55-3.5 (16.85m) set in 2019. The Ukiah, Calif., native was not done there. He moved to fifth place in the school record books in the hammer throw with a mark of 164-4 (50.10m). This is the first career CCAA Field Athlete of the Week honor for Laiwa-McKay and the first for CSUSM since Isaac Muanza last season (March. 21, 2023).
