ARCATA, Calif. – Cal State East Bay capitalized on one mistake by Cal State Monterey Bay to earn a 1-0 win and a spot in the championship match of the 2024 CCAA Women’s Soccer Tournament presented by FloCollege.

It was a very evenly played match between two teams, which finished only three points apart in the CCAA standings. The break came in the 36th minute for the second-seeded Pioneers when Kylie Newman made a long pass over the top that landed just outside the Otters' 18-yard box.

The ball bounced between two defenders, which caused a momentary hesitation about who was taking the ball. Morgan Pearson seized the opportunity and beat the two defenders and the keeper to the ball, tapping it low into the net for her third goal of the season.

No. 6 seed Cal State Monterey Bay stayed aggressive over the next 54 minutes in search of the equalizer. The Otters had its best opportunity to tie the match with just over two minutes to go when Danielle Castro took a quality shot from the right side. The ball looked marked for the back corner of the net, but the Pioneers' keeper, Ashley Levi, perfectly timed her jump. She got just enough hand on the shot to redirect it away from the goal and into the post to maintain the clean sheet.

Levi finished with two saves. Cal State Monterey Bay's keeper, Nylah Mirshafiei, had four.

Cal State East Bay will advance to the championship match of the CCAA Women's Soccer Tournament presented by FloCollege for the second time in four years. The Pioneers will face No. 1 seed Cal Poly Pomona in the championship match. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m.
