Cal State LA’s Dominic Escobar has been named the CCAA Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the games played Dec. 29-31.
The junior guard scored a season-high 24 points, grabbed seven rebounds and had two assists to lead the Golden Eagles past No. 19 Cal State Dominguez Hills in the Torodome. Escobar went 8-of-10 from the floor, including 2-of-3 from 3-point range, and 6-of-7 at the line in 27 minutes to help the Golden Eagles snap the Toros' nine-game winning streak.
The win moved Cal State LA into a three-way tie for second place in the conference with a 4-1 record.
Escobar now ranks fourth in the CCAA with 1.91 steals per game. He is also sixth in field goal percentage (.514) while averaging 12.8 points. He has helped Cal State LA pace the conference in scoring (79.2 ppg) and rank third in NCAA Div. II with a plus-9.8 turnover margin.
This is the first career CCAA Player of the Week award for Escobar and the third of the season for Cal State LA.
The Golden Eagles will host Cal Poly Pomona (2-7, 1-4 CCAA) and Cal State San Bernardino (9-2, 4-1 CCAA) this week.
