With the awarding of the medals to the first two winners and their points on the board, we are now officially underway at the 2023 CCAA Track & Field Championships.

On Thursday, Stanislaus State's Caitlyn Bell claimed the women's discus championship, and Cal Poly Pomona's Thomas Tuff won the men's competition. The multi-events also began.

Caitlyn Bell earned the 2023 CCAA Women's Discus Championship with a throw of 135-11 (41.43m). She hit that mark on her second throw and then held on for her first CCAA title. It also gave the Warriors 10 team points. Sonoma State's Ariyah Ford took second with a mark of 134-0 (40.84m).

Tuff led a great effort by Cal Poly Pomona in the discus, as in the end, only the Broncos occupied the three-person award stand. Tuff won the event with a throw of 150-10 (45.98m) on his fourth attempt. It allowed him to edge out his teammate and the defending discus champion, Aaron May, by eight inches. Dom Navarrette took third in the event, and Khai Redd added a sixth-place finish. In total, Cal Poly Pomona collected 27 points in the event.

Cal Poly Humboldt's Grace Kasberger is currently leading the heptathlon with 2836 points. Kasberger is the defending CCAA Champion. Chico State's Jordan Ausbie leads the men's decathlon with 3560 points.
