Cougars' Savannah Coyle completes the season with Pitcher of the Week honors

For a CCAA-leading third time, Cal State San Marcos’ Savannah Coyle has been voted the CCAA Pitcher of the Week. (Apr. 23-30)

Coyle pitched in all four games in the series against Stanislaus State, collecting three wins without allowing a run. She finished the weekend with a 0.00 earned run average over 9.2 innings pitched. She allowed five hits and one walk while striking out six. The sophomore left-hander is now 15-6 on the season with a 1.76 ERA.

In the first game of the series, she came in with the game tied in the sixth and threw two perfect innings with one strikeout. Her team came through with a run in the bottom of the sixth, and she pitched a clean seventh to earn the win. 

Coyle pitched a shutout in the second game, blanking the Warriors 8-0. She allowed four hits and one walk while striking out four. 

After recording two outs in Saturday’s opener, Coyle again entered the game as a reliever in place of Jayline Sloss in the series final. She gave up just one hit in two innings of work, and again the Cougars were able to push a run across in the sixth to give Coyle the win in relief. 

She ranks sixth in the conference in earned run average (1.76), third in wins (15), and is tied for seventh in saves (3). 

Coyle was one of three pitchers to earn multiple CCAA Pitcher of the Week honors this season. Amelie Valdez of Chico State and Cassie Gasper of Cal State Monterey Bay are the others. 

Cal State San Marcos will play Chico State in the 2023 CCAA Softball Tournament opening game on Wednesday, May 3, at Noon. New this year, the first-round games will both be single-elimination games, and the winners will be reseeded with the top two seeds in a double-elimination tournament.
