Humboldt's Gaige Garcia garners CCAA Pitcher of the Week after 4-0 weekend

Cal Poly Humboldt’s Gaige Garcia has been voted the CCAA Softball Pitcher of the Week for the week March 27-April 2. 

The sophomore right-hander earned four wins (4-0) at the Tournament of Champions as the Cal Poly Humboldt Lumberjacks were named the Team Champions. Garcia went 21.2 innings allowing 16 hits and just three runs. She walked three and struck out 12.

The La Habra native opened the weekend with a combined shutout against Montana State Billings. Garcia went the first six innings allowing two hits and no runs while striking out a weekend-best six batters. She faced just two over the minimum, and opponents hit just .105.

Garcia backed up that start with another six-inning performance in the 5-2 victory over Northwest Nazarene. Against Azusa Pacific, Garcia started and went 4.2 innings in a game where the ‘Jack run-ruled the Cougars 10-2. Garcia allowed just three hits and struck out four. 

On Sunday, in the tournament finale, Garcia earned her fourth win by throwing five innings of one-run ball against Holy Names. 

Garcia is now ranked sixth in the CCAA with a 1.52 earned run average and nine wins. She is also fifth in innings pitched (97.0). 

Garcia is the second Lumberjacks student-athlete to earn a CCAA weekly honor this season. She is the first Humboldt student-athlete to earn CCAA Pitcher of the Week honors since Madison Williams in 2017.
