For the second time this season, Chico State’s Amelie Valdez has been named the CCAA Softball Pitcher of the Week. (Apr. 10-16)

Valdez threw a no-hitter against first-place Sonoma State, leading the Wildcats to an 8-0 victory in the series opener. She struck out six and a walk in the fourth inning ended her bid for perfection. She did throw the minimum five innings to complete the mercy rule and earn her fourth shutout on the season. It was Valdez’s seventh win of the season.

The Atwater native also threw 2.2 innings against the Seawolves on Saturday and allowed one earned run.

For the weekend, Valdez went 7.2 innings, allowing five hits and two runs (one earned) while striking out eight. Opponents hit just .172 off the freshman.

Valdez was also voted the CCAA Pitcher of the Week earlier this season (Feb. 13). She is the only Wildcat to earn CCAA weekly honors in 2023.

She is now ninth in the CCAA in earned run average (1.86) and seventh in shutouts (3).

Chico State will host eight CCAA games this week. The Wildcats will welcome in Cal Poly Humboldt for a make-up series on Apr. 17-18 and then San Francisco State will come to town for a regularly-scheduled series starting on Friday, Apr. 21.
