Decathlete Gerwin de Haan earns CCAA Field Athlete of the Week Apr 11, 2023 Share: Complete list of weekly winners >>> Cal Poly Pomona’s Gerwin de Haan was named the CCAA Field Athlete of the Week for the week of April 3-9. The junior from Oosterzee, Friesland, in the Netherlands, scored 6,422 points in the decathlon at the Stanislaus State Multi-Event. de Haan earned an NCAA Provisional Qualifying Standard and now leads the CCAA by 55 points in the event over his teammate Gabriel Zapata. Those 6,422 points also moved him to eighth on the 2023 NCAA Performance List and to 10th in the Broncos’ record books. In the 10 events, de Haan’s best finish came in the high jump. He cleared 6-3.25 (1.91m) to place second in the event. He also collected third-place finishes in the discus (128-3/39.10m) and the pole vault (14-1.25/4.30m). This is the first career CCAA weekly award for de Haan. It is also the second consecutive for the Broncos, as Matteo Madrassi won last week. de Haan is the third Bronco to collect the honor in 2023 (Dom Navarrette). Cal Poly Pomona Track & Field team members will compete this weekend at the Bryan Clay Invitational (Apr. 13-15) in Azusa, Calif.
