Cal State San Marcos’ Nick Melanese earns first career CCAA weekly award Apr 11, 2023 Share: Complete list of weekly winners >>> Cal State San Marcos’ Nick Melanese has been selected as the CCAA Track Athlete of the Week for the week of Apr. 3-9. The sophomore from Scripps Ranch posted the fastest 800-meter time in the CCAA this season, and the second-fastest in school history, with a mark of 1:50.58. It was the 12th-fastest time in NCAA Division II this season, and it bettered his personal record by .78 seconds. Melanese placed second in the event at the Triton Invitational and collected an NCAA Provisional Qualifying Standard. This is the first career CCAA Runner of the Week for Melanese and the first for CSUSM since Trevor Boaz won it last year (Mar. 28, 2022). Members of the Cal State San Marcos track & field teams will compete this weekend at the Mt. SAC Relays (Apr. 12-15), the Bryan Clay Invitational (Apr. 13-15), and the Beach Invitational (Mar. 14-15).
