Cal State Monterey Bay’s Cassie Gasper earns her second Pitcher of the Week award in 2023 Apr 10, 2023 Share: Complete list of weekly winners >>> Cal State Monterey Bay’s Cassie Gasper has been voted the CCAA Pitcher of the Week for the week of April 3-9. Gasper tossed a pair of shutouts against San Francisco State while surrendering just three hits over 12 innings. She finished the weekend with four walks and nine strikeouts as the opponents hit just .075 off her. In the opener, Gasper went all seven innings allowing only two hits. She faced just two batters over the minimum and struck out four. The first SFSU hit came in the second inning, and they did not have another baserunner until the sixth. Gasper set down 13 Gators in order during this stretch. In Saturday’s game, the Merced native came within one out of a no-hitter. Thanks to her team run-ruling SFSU 11-0, Gasper only had to go five innings. She got one out in the final inning before Kai DeLeon broke up the no-hitter on an infield single. Gasper now ranks second in the CCAA and 17th in NCAA Div. II with a 1.12 earned run average. The right-hander is pacing the conference in strikeouts (118), hits allowed (4.63), shutouts (6), and WHIP (0.95). This is the second CCAA Player of the Week honor for Gasper in 2023 and the third of her career. Cal State Monterey Bay will face Cal State Dominguez Hills in a four-game set starting on Friday, April 14. Both teams are currently in the top 6 of the CCAA standings, which is where they will need to finish to earn a berth in the CCAA Tournament on May 3-6 in Carson.
