Cal State San Bernardino’s Journie Alexander set a new school record en route to being named CCAA Women’s Field Athlete of the Week, for the week of Feb. 27-March 5.
At the RCC Invitational in Riverside, Alexander placed fourth in the long jump as the top Division II athlete with a career-best leap of 5.49 meters (18 feet, ¼-inch). The sophomore from Vista currently has the second best mark in Division II and she sits atop of the CCAA performance list in the event.
Only Kamile Patrick of Shaw has a better distance in Division II. Patrick is a NCAA Championship provisional qualifier with a 6.30m (20’-8”).
Alexander’s new mark shattered CSUSB’s previous record of 5.32 meters (17-5 ½) set in 2019 by Valentia Sanabria.
Next for the CSUSB track and field team is the AstroAI Distance Classic at Cal State Fullerton, March 10-11.
