Sonoma State’s Gianna Bomarito continues to have a sensational freshman year as the Seawolve has picked up the CCAA Womens’ Track Athlete of the Week awards.
Bomarito, a freshman from Fresno, won the 10,000-meter run in record setting fashion at the Mangrum Invitational at Cal State San Marcos last Friday. The meet is a preview of the CCAA Track & Field Championships in May.
Bomarito clocked 34:21.82 to break her own Sonoma State program record and now sits atop of the leaderboard in the event for all of Division II on the performance list. The time surpassed the provisional qualifying time by more than two minutes.
This goes down as the third time Bomarito has set a new Sonoma State record during the 2022-23 year. It is her second track and field record this season as she set the new SSU mark in the 5000-meter run last week. Bomarito had finished second at the CCAA Cross Country Championships last November.
Next on Sonoma State’s schedule is the Mike Fanelli Track Classic at San Francisco State’s Cox Stadium this Thursday and Friday.
