Cal Poly Pomona’s Keiana Turner earns Women’s Field Athlete of the Week with impressive throws

Keiana Turner of Cal Poly Pomona was stellar in three throwing events over the weekend as she was selected as Women’s Field Athlete of the Week, for the week of March 20-26.

At the Mangrum Invitational at Cal State San Marcos, Turner won the hammer throw, placed second in the shot put and was fourth in the discus throw. 

The junior from Riverside won the hammer throw with a seasonal best heave of 49.99 meters (164-feet), which was nearly seven meters better than the runner-up. In the shot put, Turner tossed 12.38 meters (40-feet, 7 ½ inches), which is the best mark turned in by a CCAA athlete this season. Then, in the discus ring, Turner’s throw of 37.62 meters (123-5) puts her at No. 3 on the CCAA performance list.

Turner and the Broncos will next compete at the Mike Fanelli Track Classic at San Francisco State, starting on Thursday.
