Alyssa Smokey did a bit of everything for the Cal Poly Humboldt softball team last week to earn the CCAA Player of the Week honors. (Mar. 13-19)

Smokey hit .875 (7-for-8) on the week and was a part of three wins for the Lumberjacks. The sophomore pitcher and utility player had two doubles, three RBI, five walks, and a run scored to go along with a .923 on-base percentage. The right-hander also pitched 13.2 innings over three games, allowing only one earned run and collecting two wins.

In a non-conference game against Dominican, Smokey went 2-for-2 with a double, a walk and two RBI. She also combined on an 8-0 shutout, throwing the first five innings allowing no runs and only two hits.

Against San Francisco State, the Gardnerville, Nev., native hit safely in each of the games she played. On her only ‘flaw’ of the week, Smokey still reached base on a fielding error as she did not record an out in 13 plate appearances.

Smokey is the first Cal Poly Humboldt student-athlete to earn CCAA Player of the Week honors since Lexee Sheiring in March 2020.

Cal Poly Humboldt will be on the road this week to face CCAA-leaders Sonoma State in a four-game series beginning on Friday, Mar. 23.
