Cal State Dominguez Hills advances to regional championship

Asia Jordan's double-double powered No. 1 seed Cal State Dominguez Hills to a 77-66 win over No. 4 seed Montana State Billings. The victory earned the Toros a trip to Monday's NCAA West Regional Championship game.
 
CSUDH never trailed after it used a 5-0 run to close the first quarter before extending it to a 16-3 scoring outburst that lasted nearly seven minutes. With the lead in hand, the Toros controlled the tempo and continued to work the ball inside, with Jordan leading the way.
 
The Toros outscored the Yellowjackets 44-28 inside the paint and outrebounded them 35-25, including 14-7 on offensive rebounds. CSUDH had 13 second-chance points to MSUB's two, and the Toros outscored them 11-2 in fastbreak points.
 
Jordan finished 9-of-11 shooting for a game-high 23 points. She added 10 rebounds, including four on the offensive glass. Nala Williams made all three of her 3-point attempts and finished 6-of-7 from the field with 16 points. Deejanae Poland added 11 points and a team-leading four assists. Taryn Shelley and Kortney Nelson each had 13 points to lead four Yellowjackets in double figures.
 
Cal State Dominguez Hills will play No. 3 seed Cal State San Marcos in the regional championship game on Monday, Mar. 13, at 7 p.m. This will be the fourth meeting of the year between the teams. The Toros won both regular season contests, but the Cougars got revenge by winning the CCAA Tournament Championship, 74-62.
