Leon Tafirenyika picked up where he left off to start the new year as he's been named the CCAA Men's Track Athlete of the Week, for the week of Feb. 20-26.

Tafirenyika, the reigning champion in the 400-meters and 4x400-meter relays, won both events at the stormy Cal State LA Invitational on Saturday. The Cal State LA junior from Harare, Zimbabwe, clocked 48.82 seconds to win the 400, which is currently the second fastest time in Division II. He also ran the opening leg of the 4x400 relay team which won in 3:24.7.

The outdoor track season picks up this weekend in Turlock at the annual Kim Duyst Invitational, where Cal State LA will compete among most of the teams from the CCAA.
