Chico State's Jordan Ausbie's Division II debut was a success as his performance at the Chico State Multi-Event Classic yielded him the CCAA Men's Field Athlete of the Week.
Ausbie, a transfer from Cupertino's De Anza College, placed second, and was the first among collegiate competitors, in the decathlon. He is currently the Division II leader after two weekends of outdoor competition.
The junior racked up 6,000 points over the two-day meet, finishing only behind former Fresno Pacific decathlete Brett Lombardi, who competed unattached.
Ausbie finished in the top four in six of the 10 decathlon events with a win in the long jump (22 feet, 8 inches). He was second in the high jump (5 feet, 10 ¾ inches) and the 1500-meter run (4:48.73). He also notched personal best marks in the pole vault (3.60 meters) and the discus (31.29 meters).
Chico State will join most of the other CCAA teams at the annual Kim Duyst Invitational at Stanislaus State this weekend.
