Stanislaus State’s Najwa Chouati has received this season’s first Women’s Track Athlete of the Week award for her performances this past Saturday.
Chouati continued her tremendous season as a distance runner and began the outdoor track season with a pair of wins and a school record. Saturday at the Sunbird Invitational at Fresno Pacific, the senior from Bridgeton, Mo., won the 1500-meter in 4:37.43 and the 3000-meter run in 9:41.71.
Her new personal best time in the 3000-meter run is a new Stanislaus State program record. Chouati broke the previous record set by All-American and Stan State Hall of Famer Courtney Anderson, who ran it in 9:52.74 in 2012. Anderson later became the 2014 NCAA champion in the 1500 in 2014.
This past fall, Chouati had helped the Warrior women’s cross country team to a second CCAA championship and a consecutive West Region championship.
The Stanislaus State Track & Field team will return to action at its annual home meet at the Kim Duyst Invitational on March 3-4.
