Toros' Alex Davis claims Softball Player of the Week honors

Cal State Dominguez Hills’ outfielder Alex Davis was selected as the CCAA Softball Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 6-12. 

Davis helped lead the Toros to three in-region wins, collecting hits in all four contests. She finished the week hitting .364 with a .417 on-base mark and a .636 slugging percentage. 

Having been in the bottom of the batting order most of last season, Davis’ impressive at-bats in preseason convinced the coaches to move her into the middle of the lineup. For this past week, she continued to drive in runs with an opposite-field, two-out single against Hawaii Pacific in the series opener. In the second game of the doubleheader, she hit a grand slam in the third inning to drive in the game-winning runs in a 6-0 win.

Cal State Dominguez Hills hosted Azusa Pacific for a Saturday doubleheader. Davis reached base twice in the first game, collecting a hit and drawing a walk. In the late game, she scored a run in the first inning and extended the Toros’ lead with an RBI groundout in the fifth. 

Davis has now hit safely in six of the Toros’ nine games this season, and Dominguez Hills is 5-1 in those games. The sophomore from Burbank leads the CCAA with eight RBI on the season. She is tied for third in walks (five) and seventh in slugging percentage (.524). 

This is the first career Player of the Week honor for Davis and the first for a Cal State Dominguez Hills student-athlete since Raquel Jaime won on the final week of the 2022 season. 

Cal State Dominguez Hills will begin conference play this week at Cal State San Bernardino (Feb. 17-18). The Toros are 6-3 going into CCAA play. The Yotes are 3-4.
