Cardinale Stadium to Host 2023 CCAA Women’s Soccer Championship

Any $30 purchase of MBFC merchandise at the stadium team shop will include same-day admission to both semifinal matches.

SEASIDE, Calif. (Friday, November 3, 2023) – Cardinale Stadium is set to host the 2023 California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Women’s Soccer Championship in Seaside, the first time California State University, Monterey Bay has hosted the tournament since it began in 1999. The tournament semifinals will kickoff at Cardinale Stadium on Friday, November 10 at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. respectively, with the winners to play in the Championship game slated for 1 p.m. on Sunday, November 12.
 
A Proud Partner of Monterey Bay Football Club (Monterey Bay F.C.), locally-renowned Ivan’s Baked Potatoes will be available for purchase in the Cardinale Stadium plaza during the semifinal double-header on Friday only. In addition, Monterey Bay F.C. will open its Team Shop in the plaza to make the professional club’s merchandise available for purchase to those in attendance on Friday.
 
An exclusive ticket promotion will also be in effect in the lead-up to Friday’s double-header: any $30 purchase of MBFC merchandise at the stadium team shop will include same-day admission to both semifinal matches. Parking at the tournament will require a daily permit. Save time at the game by purchasing your permit in advance here.
 
The six-team, single-elimination tournament kicks off on Sunday, November 5 with the 3 seed hosting the 6 seed and the 4 seed hosting the 5 seed at their respective home fields while the top two seeds rest on a bye. The winners of those matches will then move on to play the awaiting 1 and 2 seeds in the semifinal round in Seaside. The current defending champions California State University, Los Angeles won the tournament in 2022 by defeating Sonoma State 1-0 in the championship match at Rohnert Park.

ABOUT MONTEREY BAY F.C.
On February 1, 2021, the United Soccer League (USL) announced Monterey Bay Football Club (Monterey Bay F.C.) joined the USL Championship for the 2022 season. The club plays on the campus of California State University, Monterey Bay (CSUMB) and privately invested millions to upgrade the existing facilities of what is now known as Cardinale Stadium, to bring the venue’s capacity to 6,000.
 
Monterey Bay F.C. is led by Owner and Chairman Ray Beshoff, who alongside a dedicated group of local investors, revealed the club’s official crest and colors in July 2021; a crest that was designed by and for the regional community. The club’s soccer operations are led by two-time MLS Coach of the Year Frank Yallop who serves as Sporting Director and Head Coach for the club, and Assistant Coach Ramiro Corrales, who is from Salinas.

ABOUT CALIFORNIA COLLEGIATE ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION – CCAA
The California Collegiate Athletic Association has been the nation's most successful Division II intercollegiate athletic conference since its establishment in December 1938. The 12-member league is home to some of the nation's finest NCAA Division II athletic programs. CCAA members have won 155 NCAA Championships (103 men, 52 women) all time, far and away the most of any Division II conference. Since 2000, CCAA institutions have earned 23 national championships in 10 sports. During that span, eight members have earned at least one title highlighted by back-to-back championships for UC San Diego women's soccer (2000, 2001) and Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball (2001, 2002).
 
In 2011, the Cal State Monterey Bay men's golf team finished at the top of the national leaderboard while UC San Diego softball also claimed the NCAA crown, marking a memorable May. Cal State San Bernardino volleyball ran the table in 2019 and hoisted the hardware with an undefeated season. Most recently, Cal State LA men's soccer captured the 2021 national championship with a 1-0 win.­­­­
