Morten Bjoershol adds another accolade to his impressive list of accomplishments as the Cal State LA senior was selected as the unanimous 2021-22 CCAA Male Athlete of the Year by the 12 sports information staffs across the league.

Bjoershol had an incredible senior season leading Cal State LA to the 2021 NCAA Championship and being named the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Player of the Year.

The four-year starter from Oslo, Norway, anchored one of the best defensive units in the country. The Golden Eagles finished the season ranked second in Division II in goals against average (0.54) and third in shutout percentage (.565). They also led the nation in save percentage (.879). During its run to the national championship, the Cal State LA defense allowed just two goals in five playoff matches, including zero in the semifinals or championship matches.

The two-time CCAA Defender of the Year paced Cal State LA during the 2021 campaign with six goals and four game-winners. He scored the only goals in 1-0 wins at Sonoma State and home against Cal State San Marcos. The Golden Eagles never lost a match where Bjoershol scored during his four years (12-0).

The 2021-22 CCAA Male Athlete of the Year honor completes a storied career for Bjoershol. He was a two-time All-West Region Defender of the Year and a three-time All-American. During his four seasons, Cal State LA went 66-11-13 (.806 winning%), winning three CCAA Tournaments, two CCAA regular-season titles, and reaching two NCAA Division II Championships.

After the season, Bjoershol signed a professional contract, and he is now playing for the Las Vegas Lights FC teams.

Bjoershol is just the fourth Cal State LA male to earn the CCAA's year-ending award, joining track and field athletes Sam Turner (1977-78), Tambi Wenj (95-96), and fellow men's soccer student-athlete Alexander Brems (2019-20) as honorees. The Golden Eagles women have enjoyed five selections, also all track and field competitors. Click here to see the complete list of CCAA Athletes of the Year
