The last time Cal Poly Pomona won a CCAA Track & Field Championship, none of the ladies on the team had even been born. On Saturday, they made program history by becoming the first Bronco team to earn the conference track & field championship since 1998.

Ayana Fields led the way for the Broncos, collecting five medals and two special honors in the process. The sophomore sprinter won the 100m (11.91), 200m (24.00), and 400m (54.18). Her time in the 400m was the eighth-fastest in NCAA Division II this season, and it earned the sophomore an NCAA Provisional Standard. Fields also helped both relay teams win CCAA Championships with NCAA Provisional Qualifying Times. Her performances helped Cal Poly Pomona earn 50 of their 223 team points. Fields was named the Track Athlete of the Meet, and she collected the High Point Award.

Her teammate, Ana Tovi, was voted the Field Athlete of the Meet by the league's coaches. Tovi won the shot put and the discus. Her discus throw of 157-10 (48.12m) earned Tovi an NCAA Provisional Qualifying Standard, as she currently sits fifth on the NCAA Division II performance list.

Cal State San Bernardino had a pair of student-athletes collect special honors at the meet. Tayler Salley earned the Newcomer of the Meet award. The junior won the hammer throw with a mark of 166-0 (50.59m) and took third in the discus (126-8/38.62m) to score 18 points for the Yotes.

Sariyah Copeland would rack up 14 on her own and help Cal State San Bernardino collect 11 more in the relays en route to being selected as the CCAA Freshman of the Meet. She placed third in the 100m (12.11) and took third in the 200m with a season-best time of 24.56. She combined with teammates Maame Banahene, Ladaijah Wright, and Alexandria Owens to place third in the 4x400m (3:57.62). Copeland also ran the third leg on the 4x100m relay team, which took fourth with 48.16.

Chico State's Marissa D'Atri was the only other student-athlete to earn multiple first-place medals as an individual. The junior distance runner began Saturday by winning the 3k steeplechase with an NCAA Provisional Qualifying Standard time of 10:31.26. Then in the second-to-last race of the day, she won the 5k with a season-best time of 17:09.13. D'Atri now ranks at the top of the CCAA Performance List in both events and eighth nationally in the steeple.

Cal Poly Pomona's Chris Bradford was named the CCAA Women's Track & Field Coach of the Year for his efforts in helping lead Cal Poly Pomona to the 2022 CCAA Track & Field Championship. Twenty-seven Broncos earned All-CCAA honors for finishing top 3 in their event, and seven won conference titles. The Broncos' 223 points are the most scored at a CCAA Championship since 2009, and it helped stop San Francisco State's run of back-to-back championships.

The CCAA Elite 13 Award went to Cal Poly Pomona's Analexis Glaude. The senior Psychology major had the highest cumulative GPA among all competitors that reached the CCAA Championships. Glaude also contributed to the Broncos' CCAA Championship by finishing fourth in the 400m (57.21) and helping the 4x400m relay team win the event with a time of 3:47.46.

Many other NCAA Provisional Qualifying Standards were also achieved in the CCAA Championships. Cal State East Bay's Chase Worthen registered a CCAA-best time of 4:31.38 in the 1500m. Chico State's Chloe Taylor won the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:01.83. She is the only CCAA student-athlete to post an NCAA Provisional Time in the event this year. Darriale Yarbrough from Cal State San Marcos won the long jump with a distance of 19-2.75 (5.86m). Cal State LA's Javany McDermott and Cal Poly Pomona's Jade DeSouza each registered NCAA Provisional Qualifying marks in the triple jump, but it was McDermott who walked away with the CCAA title after posting a jump of two centimeters more (39-9.25 to 39-8.5).

Many teams will send student-athletes to last chance meets the next two weekends in hopes of earning a place at nationals. The NCAA Division II Track & Field Championships will be held May 26-28 in Allendale, Mich.
