Cal Poly Pomona’s Ayana Fields sprints to three provisional times to earn Women’s Track Athlete of the Week award

With three provisional qualifying times at the Stanford Invitational, Cal Poly Pomona’s Ayana Fields has earned this week’s Women’s Track Athlete of the Week award.

Not only did Fields sprinted to three NCAA Championship provisional qualifying times, all three personal best times are now also in the top third of Cal Poly Pomona’s record book.

Fields, a sophomore from Los Angeles, won the 400-meter run in 54.89 seconds, which is currently sixth best in Division II. She clocked 23.83 seconds in the 200-meter dash to finish third. Her time is second fastests in DII. As part of the 4x400-meter relay team, Fields and her teammates posted a time of 3:45.98, the seventh fastest time in Division II.

Fields is the CCAA leader in 200m, 400m and the 4x400 relay. Her times are also among the top three fastest in the Broncos record book. Her 400m time is third, the 200m time is second best and the 4x400 relay team’s time is also second fastest recorded by the Broncos.

The speedster was also part of the 4x100-meter relay team which clocked in at 46.90 seconds for fourth at Stanford.
This was Fields’ second Track Athlete of the Week honor. She won the award for Feb. 21-28, after posting a provisional qualifying time in the 100-meter dash.

Cal Poly Pomona will travel to La Jolla for the Triton Invitational on Saturday, April 9.
