Cal State LA's Tafirenyika wins back-to-back Track Athlete of the Week awards Apr 26, 2022 Share: Complete list of past winners >>> For the second consecutive week, Cal State LA’s Leon Tafirenyika has been selected as the CCAA Track Athlete of the Week. (April 18-24) Tafirenyika lowered his NCAA Provisional Qualifying time in the 400m from 47.24 to 47.13 at the Chris Rinne Twilight. The freshman from Harare, Zimbabwe leads the CCAA by .85 seconds in the event and he ranks ninth in NCAA Division II. He also helped the 4x400m relay team post a 3:16.98. Tafirenyika is the second Golden Eagle to earn a CCAA Track Athlete of the Week award for the 2022 season. He joins Darnelle Harris who won the first week of the season. Cal State LA is on a competition hiatus until the CCAA Track & Field Championships on May 5-7 at San Francisco State.
