Chico State’s Nadia Torkman snagged an NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the high jump as she’s been selected as the Women’s Field Athlete of the Week, for the week of April 11-17.
Torkman climbed into sixth on the Wildcats’ all-time-best list with her 1.68-meter clearance in the high jump at the Bryan Clay Invitational at Azusa Pacific Friday night. She also helped the Wildcats post season-best times in the 4x100-meter relay on consecutive days.
The senior graduate student from Nevada City was ninth out of 29 in the Bryan Clay Women’s High Jump Invitational, tying for second among the 13 Division II competitors. Her 1.68- meter clearance is tied for sixth in school history and the team’s highest since 2015.
Torkman teamed up with Mckenzie Blair, Chloe Taylor, and Savannah Bailey for a Chico State season-best 4x100-meter relay time of 48.31 seconds Friday. That same group ran 48.22 on Saturday, finishing 21st in the field but topping the other two CCAA squads represented.
Torkman wrapped up her week by finishing fifth in her 15-woman flight and 11th overall out of 47 total competitors with her 1.66-meter high jump clearance at the Long Beach Invitational.
Torkman continues to lead the CCAA in the high jump. She ranks 26th in the nation. Torkman also ranks second in the CCAA in the javelin.
The Chico State Wildcats are back in action next week, hosting the Chico Invitational at University Track Stadium.
