Chico State’s pole vaulter Cristian Brady broke the school’s pole vault record while climbing into the NCAA Division II top 10 this season, and he was named the CCAA Field Athlete of the Week for the week of April 11-17.

The sophomore from Covina cleared 16 feet, 9.5 inches (5.12m) on Saturday at the Beach Invitational. His mark broke Frank Lines’ record of 16-7.5 (5.07m) set in 1983.

Brady’s height is nearly a foot-and-a-half higher (0.42 meters) than any other student-athlete in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). He ranks 10th in the nation following Saturday's action.

Brady had already enjoyed a nice week, having finished third out of 19 in the invitational section of the pole vault at Friday’s Bryan Clay Invitational after clearing 16-2 (4.93m). He bettered his existing NCAA provisional qualifying mark, breaking into the Chico State all-time top 10 in the process.

The Wildcats will host the Chico Invitational this Friday and Saturday (April 22-23) in their final meet before the CCAA Championships, held May 5-7 at San Francisco State.
