Toro's Ashley Wies earns second CCAA Pitcher of the Week award Apr 18, 2022 Share: Complete list of weekly winners >>> Cal State Dominguez Hills’ Ashley Wies earned her second CCAA Pitcher of the Week honor of the 2022 season. (April 11-17) Wies was a key piece for the Toros as they became the first team to take a series from No. 4 Cal State San Marcos all season. The sophomore right-hander went 2-0 as she allowed just 11 hits and one walk over 15 innings. She struck out nine Cougars. On Saturday, she went all eight innings as the Toros won in extra-innings 3-2. She struck out six and did not walk a batter to allow Cal State Dominguez Hills to overcome a 2-0 deficit in the fourth and come back for the 3-2 win. The Torrance native also earned a win in the late game on Saturday when she entered in relief, and the Toros rallied from a 4-0 deficit to win the game and clinch the series. After her weekend, Wies is now 10th in the CCAA, earned run average (2.20), fourth in strikeouts (107), and is second in wins (17). The wins clinched a spot in the CCAA Softball Tournament for Cal State Dominguez Hills. The Toros are third in the league, two games behind Chico State, with a 21-11 record. Cal State Dominguez Hills will be on a bye this week. They will face Cal State Monterey Bay on the road, April 29-30 to close out the regular season.
