Cougars' Savannah Coyle earns first career CCAA Pitcher of the Week award

Cal State San Marcos’ Savannah Coyle led Cal State San Marcos to a pair of wins to pick up CCAA Pitcher of the Week honors for the week of Feb. 28-March 6. 

Coyle struck out 13 batters in 13 innings while allowing just seven hits and two runs. She walked only one batter in the series, and opponents hit just .156 off the freshman from Oceanside. 

In the series opener, the lefty pitched a complete game surrendering just three hits. She struck out six and walked one as the Cougars would go on to take three of four games on the road. 

Coyle laso contributed a .500 average at the plate. She went 4-for-8 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored. 


Coyle now leads the CCAA in opponent batting average (.173) and saves (4). She is also third in wins (8) and earned run average (1.07) and fifth in strikeouts (52). 

Cal State San Marcos (19-3) sits atop the CCAA standings, tied with Chico State at 10-2 in conference play. The Cougars will host Cal State East Bay this week in a four-game set starting on Friday, March 11.
