Decathlon performance nets Cal Poly Pomona's Gabriel Zapata CCAA weekly honor Mar 29, 2022 Share: Complete list of past winners >>> Gabriel Zapata’s strong performance at the UC Riverside Spring Classic earned the junior CCAA Field Athlete of the Week honors for the week of March 21-27. Zapata won the decathlon at the meet with 6,355 points. That is the fifth-best mark in NCAA Division II this season, and it leads the CCAA by almost 500 points. The Arvin, Calif., native won four of the 10 events while setting lifetime bests in seven. He won the 100m with a time of 11.03 and the 400m with a time of 49.22. He also added victories in the 110m hurdles (14.75) and the high jump (5-11.25/1.81m). In addition to leading the decathlon, Zapata also ranks in the top 10 on the CCAA Performance List in the 400m (fifth), 110m hurdles (sixth), high jump (seventh), and javelin (sixth). Cal Poly Pomona will continue its season on March 31 at the Mike Fanelli Track Classic.
