Imani Williams of Cal Poly Pomona jumps to Women’s Field Athlete of the Week award

Imani Williams, who leapt into the Cal Poly Pomona record book, has been named the Women’s Field Athlete of the Week, for the week of March 14-20.

Williams set a NCAA Championship provisional qualifying mark in the long jump with a distance of 5.85 meters (19 feet, 2 ½ inches) at the Franson Classic at Azusa Pacific. The senior from Escondido finished fourth behind APU’s Nicole Warwick and two athletes from Division I University of Montana.

Williams’ mark is the fifth best distance in Division II so far this season. She is also ahead of the rest of the CCAA field by more than a foot.

At the Franson Classic, Williams also finished 14th in the 100-meter hurdles in 16.03 seconds.

Cal Poly Pomona next competes at the Titus and Ely Meet at Concordia Irvine on March 26.
