Toros' Lopez earns CCAA Player of the Week award

Cal State Dominguez Hills’ Maiya Lopez has been selected as the CCAA Player of the Week after hitting over .600 while leading the Toros to a series victory over Cal State San Bernardino. (March 7-13)

The sophomore catcher went 8-for-13 (.615) in the series with three home runs, 10 RBI, and three runs scored. She reached base safely in all four games as the Toros took over third place in the CCAA standings. 

In the second game, Lopez went 4-for-4 with two home runs and five RBI. She hit a solo shot in the second inning and a grand slam in the seventh. She followed that performance up with another five-RBI game in the series finale. She homered in the second inning, and she had the two-run single in the sixth to complete the mercy-rule win. 

Lopez is tied for fifth in the CCAA with 22 runs batted in. She is also tied for sixth in triples (2) and is 10th with a 1.030 on-base plus slugging percentage (OPS).

Cal State Dominguez Hills (19-8, 10-6 CCAA) is four games back of conference leaders Chico State and Cal State San Marcos, who will meet this weekend in Chico. The Toros will be at Cal State East Bay for a four-game set starting on Friday, March 18, at 1 p.m.
