Wies wins her first CCAA Pitcher of the Week award

Cal State Dominguez Hills’ Ashley Wies claimed CCAA Pitcher of the Week honors for the week of Feb. 22-28 after throwing 23 innings and giving up only one unearned run. 

Wies helped lead the Toros to a 3-1 series victory over Stanislaus while earning all three wins. She allowed just 18 hits while appearing in all four games of the series to hold opponents to a .212 batting average. She struck out 17 and walked only two. 

Wies threw a complete-game shutout in the series finale, allowing just three hits while striking out four to secure the series win for the Toros. 

After her stellar weekend, Wies now ranks second in the CCAA in wins (7) and sixth in earned run average (1.38). She is also fourth in strikeouts (48) and fifth in innings pitched (55.2). 

The series victory helped Cal State Dominguez Hills improve to 13-6 overall and even its record at 4-4 in CCAA play. This week, the Toros will be on the road for a four-game set at Sonoma State (March 4-5).
