Cal State LA's Darnelle Harris grabs first CCAA Track Athlete of the Week award Feb 22, 2022 Share: Complete list of weekly winners >>> Cal State LA’s Darnelle Harris posted three first-place finishes at the Cerritos Open to claim the first CCAA Track Athlete of the Week honors of the 2022 season. The junior from Long Beach, Calif., sprinted out of the gate with a time of 10.68 in the 100-meter and a 21.53 in the 200-meter to claim victory in both races. He won the 100m in dominating fashion (0.38 seconds) before edging out his teammate Shingirai Hlanguyo by 0.09 seconds in the 200m. Harris would also team up with Hlanguyo, Jesus Nichol II and Leon Tafirenyika to win the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:20.50. This is Harris’ first season competing with the Golden Eagles after he transferred in from Long Beach City College after the 2020 season. The Golden Eagles will be back in action this Saturday, Feb. 26 when they host the Cal State LA Invitational on the Jesse Owens Track.
