Cal State LA falls to Concordia in the NCAA West Regional

[Box score] [Video replay]

It had been almost three weeks and over 375 minutes of play, but an opponent finally scored against Cal State LA; unfortunately, that one goal was the difference in Thursday's 1-0 loss to Concordia in the NCAA West Regional.

In the fourth minute, Concordia's Analisa Gjonovich directed a corner kick over the scrum in the middle of the box to the far post. She was looking to connect on a header with a teammate, but the ball kept sailing without making contact with the offense or the defense. It hooked just inside the post for the go-ahead goal.

Cal State LA took some time to find its rhythm on offense over the next 40 minutes, as they did not take their first shot on goal until the second half. All three of their shots on goal came within a 20-minute stretch in the second half, and each time Concordia's keeper Riley Urquiza was there to save the shot. She finished with three saves, while her counterpart for Cal State LA, Areli Reyes, had two saves.

Cal State LA ends its season at 11-4-6 and as the 2022 CCAA Tournament Champions. This was the first trip to the postseason for the Golden Eagles since 2014. Concordia will advance to the next round to face tournament host Hawaii Hilo on Saturday, Nov. 12.
